Fall Guys Law is the slip and fall website of Poynter & Bucheri, LLC, an Indianapolis personal injury law firm helping people across Indiana since 1996.
A fall can happen anywhere: a grocery aisle with a spill nobody mopped, an apartment stairway with a loose rail, a parking lot nobody salted after a January ice storm. Owners don't have to make property perfect, but Indiana law expects them to use reasonable care to keep it safe for the people they invite in.
Falls we help with
- Wet or freshly mopped floors with no warning sign
- Spills, produce, and leaking coolers or freezers
- Snow and ice at entrances, sidewalks and parking lots
- Uneven thresholds, unmarked steps and changes in floor height
- Loose or missing handrails and broken stairs
- Poor lighting in stairwells, hallways and parking areas
- Potholes, broken curbs and wheel stops

Is the business responsible?
Not automatically. The key question is usually whether the owner knew, or should have known, about the hazard (notice) and failed to fix it or warn you. Most premises injury lawsuits must be filed within two years (IC 34-11-2-4). Claims against a government entity have much shorter notice deadlines. See Indiana fall injury deadlines.
